Over the last couple of weeks, various ladies at the Awali Golf Club have been strutting their stuff in peacock style, hoping to attract the best three gents to form a team for the annual Ladies Excuse-Me competition.

The competition, being played for the 20th time, has a unique format in the AGC calendar and if all team players were playing to handicap over the 18-hole course, a score of 112 Stableford points would be achieved.

The public holiday of November 3 saw the outcome of the ladies’ recruitment efforts. Joan Martin and her team called Joan’s Jets (Hamad Fares, Gerry McDermott and Onny Martin) were runaway winners with 124 points, 10 points ahead of the next two teams, namely Roshni Khanna’s Red Hot Chilli Peppers (Jeff Barrett, Anil Nair and Rajesh Khanna), and losing on countback, Roberta Trzebinski’s Mambo Italiano (Peter Rogers, Hendrik Wessels and Ziggy Trzebinski).

The result sees Joan add her name for a second time to the Ladies Excuse-Me Salver, a trophy donated to the club in the 1995/96 season by ex-member and long-serving committee member, Rita Field.

Prizes were presented by Club Captain Abdul Elah Fakhroo assisted by the event organiser Steve Brown.
