International show jumping trainer Ben Murphy arrived in the kingdom last week and immediately went to work, helping both horses and riders to obtain their optimum potential.
Riders from beginner or green level to Grand Prix standard took part in sessions, although he also worked his magic with the flat/dressage enthusiasts too. Ben’s only real ethos was to see the horses happy and the riders smile, something he certainly achieved.
Shakhoora Riding Centre held its annual Show Jumping Training Event on Friday. This was a training show with a difference thanks to having Murphy in the arena. Once again his expertise came to the fore and his calm, congenial attitude coupled with proficient advice, ensured everyone gained in confidence and ability.
It was a fabulous morning, thanks and appreciation goes to Samia Al Saffar of Shakhoora Riding Centre for organising the event. These types of initiatives are much loved by the equestrian community.
Ben enjoyed working in Bahrain so much, he extended his trip, although he took a flying visit back to the UK to take seven of his own horses into the young horse championships.
He returned today, very much looking forward to preparations for the BREEF Show Jumping Event to be held on Saturday.

The inaugural BREEF Show Jumping Championship will be held this Saturday and all entries should be submitted by today. The event will feature two classes for the junior riders, followed by three adult classes.
Last weekend was the inaugural Race Meeting for this season. Also out of the starting gate were some major changes, of most interest was the new parade ring which has been moved in front of the grandstand allowing race-goers to watch in comfort as the runners of each race are displayed.
The track itself heralded a brand new ultra safe running rail. Youngsters were catered for with playground activities and face-painting and this ran alongside a cultural exhibition. The Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club is certainly making a name for itself as the place to go for families and anyone-else looking for an exciting Friday afternoon with all the thrills that racing holds.
Twin Palms Riding Centre, conveniently located behind St Christopher’s School in Saar, will host an Open Day Extravaganza on Friday. This promises to be an absolutely top class event, certainly one not to be missed.
Starting at 10am there will be Show Jumping Puissance Display – Gymkhana events for some of the pluckier young riders, plus fancy dress displays to awe the crowds, as well as archery. There will be not only one but two Quadrille demonstrations – a quadrille is a minimum of eight riders performing dressage moves.
To tempt visitors there will be various stalls, games, sale items, refreshments and cakes galore. So be sure to make it a date – there will be something for everyone on Friday morning. If you have always wondered what it would be like to ride a horse or your child has a hankering for riding a pony, come along – you can try it for free!
