Gulf Weekly Students show off spiking skills

GULFWEEKLY, the nation’s favourite community newspaper, has linked up with The Bahrain Private Schools Sports League (BPSSL) to highlight the sporting prowess of students competing locally in different competitions.

The BPSSL has been providing opportunities to students in the kinghdom for many years, and this new partnership will help showcase the best athletes from the top private schools on the island – Riffa Views International School, St Christopher’s School, The British School Bahrain, The Bahrain School, The French School Bahrain, Modern Knowledge Schools, Ibn Khuldoon National School, Al Raja School and Bahrain Bayan School.

The student athletes play a 10-week league season, consisting of approximately nine games in three different age categories: Junior, Intermediate and Senior. The winner of the league receives a trophy and medals and is seeded as the top team for the tournament. The best players throughout the season will also be awarded with an MVP (most valued player) medal, one player from each school will be presented this award. The tournaments are hosted at the various schools.

The fall season in the BPSSL is volleyball. There were many great performances during the league and tournaments, which were hosted by The Bahrain School, St Christopher’s School and Riffa Views International School. We congratulate all of the players who took part and thank the coaches, referees and volunteers who make these events possible.

Intermediate Girls Volleyball

Ten teams from nine schools took part in the tournament held at St Christopher’s Senior School. After some very competitive pool games St Christopher’s A team played Bayan School in the final. With a keenly contested final St Christopher’s won 18-15. Bahrain School came third and RVIS finished fourth in the tournament. MVP medals were given out and presented to one player from each school.

The Senior Girls’ tournament was a true testament to dedication and hard work. The Bahrain School had gone through the season without winning a single game, but always keeping matches close and stealing a set here or there.
