Months of hard work finally came together in a fine display of swimming skills and magnificent sportsmanship at the St Christopher's Open Swimming Championships.

Many of Bahrain's top young swimmers from the Indian School, Ibn Khuldoon National School, Bahrain Swimming Association, St Christopher's School, Awali Swimming Club, Dilmun Swimming Club, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, TJST and the Bahrain School were in action to compete against friends ... and even against family!

The competition started on Saturday with the breaststroke races at 8.30am. Even before 9am nine meet records had been broken in the breaststroke and butterfly events! The day continued with the backstroke and 200m freestyle events and another six new records.

After another short break, the freestyle and individual medley events saw some stiff competition with yet another eight new records!

The winners for each age category took home individual trophies.

"The weather was marvellous and the parents were there again, willing to help with official tasks or simply cheering on all the swimmers," a spokesman for the organising committee said.

"Our thanks have to go to everyone who helped out both volunteering before the event and helping out at the last minute, as well as to all the people, companies and organisations who donated raffle prizes - Bahrain Air, DHL, Crepe CafŽ, the Diplomat Radisson, Alosra Supermarket, The Gulf Hotel, The Crowne Plaza, The Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park, The German Bakery, Radio Bahrain and A Piece of Cake."
