The first episode of the Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms, is out now on HBO, with a release scheduled until February 22.

Created by Ira Parker and author George R R Martin, it is the third television series in the Song of Ice and Fire franchise and an adaptation of the Tales of Dunk and Egg novella series.

The six episodes will tell the story of a penniless wandering hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), nicknamed Dunk, and his 10-year-old squire with a secret, nicknamed Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), as they enter a jousting tournament to try and improve their fortunes.

“This doesn’t have any dragons or big battles, it has a field and a lot of tents and some horses,” George revealed.

The show is described to have a lighter tone than the other Game of Thrones universe adaptations, with most episodes set to have a runtime lesser than 40 minutes.

While it is described to have comedic relief, showrunner Ira promises fans tension and some violent moments too.

“Hopefully we get to what Game of Thrones fans love so much about Westeros (a fictional continent based on medieval Britain), which is a lot of comedy and great characters butting right up against tragedy, and those really brutal, honest, terrible fight sequences that will hopefully impress some people,” Ira said.

The series was renewed late last year, ahead of the first season premiere, for a second season, which is expected to release in 2027.
