Hi everybody! So who out there needs to lose a bit of weight? Forget exercising, all you need to do is catch a tummy bug and 'Hey Presto'! You can lose six kilos in a week easily.
What am I going on about, you may ask? Well, this is what happened for three frightening but monotonous days with me ending up sipping just water and eating very, very little.
During this time I've also got to tell you that I had many kind people advising me to do this and do that, to cure myself. One kind soul's recommended remedy was to cut the corner off a tea bag and swallow it whole. Another told me to mix olive oil with ginger and also dried figs!
I don't know if they were serious or just taking bets to see if I would give their quack cures a go, but I actually didn't try any; instead deciding to 'let nature take its course'!
One listener to my Radio Bahrain Midday Madness Show called in with yet another 'miracle cure'. I thought, 'oh no, here we go again'.
This latest recommendation was to boil some rice and mix it in with plain yoghurt. Well, I was very hungry, the funny butterfly type feelings in my stomach had pretty much stopped, and somehow this just felt kind of 'right'. So I thought, 'OK, let's give it a go'.
That same day I called in at the supermarket on the way home from the radio, picked up the ingredients and set about cooking immediately I walked through my front door.
Now, in the kitchen I am quite good at washing-up and at making a hot drink to go with a packet of bickies, but my culinary talents pretty much end there.
My cookery skills leave a lot to be desired, but on this particular afternoon I was definitely on a mission! I turned on the cooker (always a good start!) lit it, and put water in a saucepan. It started to boil and I threw in the rice.
Then I read the rice packet. It said it would take 20 minutes to cook. Aaarrrggghhh!! I felt like I was starving and I needed food NOW! So I paced around the kitchen like a lion stalking its prey waiting, waiting... until, yes there it was; soggy, overcooked yet burnt at the bottom, and thoroughly delicious rice.
I got the yoghurt, mixed it all up in a bowl and I sat down to my 'feast'. I kid you not, that dish tasted like the best food I had ever eaten in my life!
When I felt better I weighed myself and I kid you not, I had lost six kilos. Which, of course, I proclaimed from the roof tops. People started joking and asking if they could catch the same bug to help them lose weight too!
So with my new found lightness as a kick-start I am embarking on a fitness campaign (again). Beginning with a swim every morning, after doing the school run with Hannah; which actually makes me sweat more than anything else, what with everybody else also dropping off their precious bundles of joy to their respective schools.
A word to all the mums and dads, please PUT YOUR KIDS IN A CHILDSEAT or at the very least wrap a SEATBELT around them! OK, rant over; I am also trying other forms of exercise like snow-skiing (on my neighbours Wii). One day soon I will even jump on the infamous birthday present that Wendy got me recently; a bicycle (which to date I've not yet taken out the house). But, with the weather improving so dramatically of late, I will soon have no excuse.
I have got to say the response to last week's article was amazing. Don't forget, if you have a band or you want to sing and are under the age of 18 drop me an email to bahrainstalent@gmail.com and I could feature you on the TV Show Music Mania and also get you on Bahrain radio.
Keep Happy and Healthy,
All my love
Krazy Kevin
