This year Bahrain's most popular annual cookery contest, the ninth 'Taste of India Cookery Competition' organised by the Association of Mar Ivanios College Old Students (Amicos) will be held on May 1 at The Indian Club from 9.30am.

Entry to the cookery competition is free, open to all nationalities, and there are five categories - salads, vegetarian, non-vegetarian, desserts and healthy meal, which could be breakfast, lunch or dinner as long as it is cooked using healthy ingredients in a healthy way.

Participants can take part in a maximum of two cookery categories only. Each dish must be prepared to cater to a minimum of four diners.

Vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes have to be a main course, suitable to be complimented by rice, roti or chappathy. Dessert should not include fruit salads and ice creams.

"You can cook the food at home but the final presentation and decoration has to be done at the competition venue," a contest spokesman said. "The club will provide normal table cloth but you can bring your own table cloth to enhance your presentation. A saucer and tablespoon has to be kept near the food to enable the judges to taste it.

A detailed recipe of the preparation has to be displayed beside the dish."

The judges will be professional chefs from reputed hotels and restaurants in Bahrain. Judging will be based on ingredients used, creativity, taste, texture, presentation and appearance.

A range of gifts and certificates will be presented to the winners.

Entry forms are available at the Indian Club and the last date for submitting the registration forms will be 8pm on April 28.
