CHECK out the newly-designed Mazda CX-5 crossover SUV at International Motor Trading Agency showrooms in Bahrain that fully incorporates SKYACTIV technology and a new design theme ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’.
The marque says its technological breakthrough has made it possible to achieve its goal of a 30 per cent improvement in the global average fuel economy of its vehicles in 2015, as called for by ‘Sustainable Zoom-Zoom’.
This year around 80 per cent of Mazda passenger vehicles employ SKYACTIV and the debut of the Mazda CX-5 new-generation crossover SUV marks the first commercially-available model to employ it throughout – from the powertrain to the body – while also fully embracing KODO design.
Its new-generation engines has allowed the company to attain a world’s best: a compression ratio of 14.0:1 – dramatically improving fuel efficiency, power, exhaust gas emissions and other attributes.
Newly-developed MacPherson strut suspension at the front and a multi-link layout at the rear help the SKYACTIV-chassis deliver Mazda’s trademark ‘Jinba Ittai’ feel, the designers say.
Suspension link geometry and bush characteristics are optimised to assure light, linear steering response at low- to mid-speeds along with excellent high-speed stability. Brakes give precise, assured, easily-controlled braking at all speeds.
The lightweight yet rigid framework is optimised for handling stability, low NVH and superior collision safety performance.
Its designers add that the CX-5 2016 model, starting from BD8,300, offers ‘astonishing innovation in convenient flexibility’. The world’s first remote control fold down 4:2:4 rear seats are an option, for example. Storage spaces were designed according to the principles of ‘stowability’, ‘removability’ and ‘visibility’ to assure both easy storage and easy availability. “Needless to say, CX-5 provides the generous storage capacity demanded of an SUV so occupants always enjoy free space within easy reach to put anything,” a spokesman added.
