The more sports that people have played, the easier my job to coach them becomes. Good hand-eye coordination, speed and balance are real benefits for golf.
As a youngster I trained with a lot of good golfers and also played football, cricket, tennis, in fact any sport I could! One talented golfer in my team only ever played golf and as we got older my teammate began to fall behind the rest of the team, as everyone was getting stronger and more powerful.
The boy wasn’t a fast runner, nor could he kick a football hard or throw a ball a long way. No matter what anyone says, distance is a huge advantage in golf and because the boy hadn’t developed these attributes, he didn’t naturally have explosive power, which made golf more difficult for him.
Good balance and good hand-eye coordination also give us consistency with striking the ball solidly. I like the children I coach to develop all skills, such as throwing, kicking and running. Throw as far, kick as hard and run as fast as you can to become a good all-round golfer!
