We’d like to formally introduce Michelle Page, who has taken over from Joyce Hughes as our fundraising co-ordinator.

In fact, she actually took over several months ago and has been hard at work ever since organising the flurry of events that we’ve put on this year.

Having started off with the Dog Walk in January she then sailed on with the quiz night in April, and the next event was our Art to the Rescue at the British Embassy which she organised and ran virtually single-handedly.

That was a fantastic success, despite facing many obstacles before the day, not to mention the heavy rain shower on the night itself!

Her skills as an art auctioneer proved to be very persuasive and most of the 64 pieces of artwork available flew out the door netting the society BD5,000 on the night, double the previous year’s takings.

Her next event was the somewhat smaller (and less susceptible to the vagaries of the weather) ladies afternoon tea party at the Diplomat Radisson Blu where she acted as MC of the mini-auction. That was also a very successful fundraiser which ended up as a sold-out event.

Now it’s time for a well-deserved rest throughout Ramadan before getting back into the saddle to start putting together a Home Alone quiz for the guys during August, organising the Pawsome Auction on October 17 and overseeing the Fashion Show, which has been postponed from June to November 20.

Congratulations Michelle on a very successful start to the year, long may it continue!

If you are interested in volunteering your time for a BSPCA event or would like to contribute a prize for the many raffles and auctions that are held throughout the year please contact Michelle on 33121768 or michellebspca@hotmail.com

It was with interest that I read the recent Whisperer comments about a broken iPad. My son too dropped his device on the kitchen floor and I have travelled all around the kingdom to find a shop willing and able to replace its shattered screen.

I would advise parents of St Chris (who are being forced by the school to ensure their children bring this equipment with them) not to purchase the latest version as replacement parts are impossible to find unless you are willing to pay a premium price. The one and only company on the island willing to carry out the task demanded BD110.

The retailer who sold it to me would, or could not, repair it and suggested I buy another one!

You’ve been warned.
