Shakhoora Riding Centre held its final show jumping event of the season on Friday and it proved to be a thrilling affair, particularly in the final Chase Me Charlie class.
Airforce One ridden by Jerri Taylor took to the skies and showed off his prowess at jumping huge fences. He needed to, as the fence was raised each round and every rider who knocked it over was eliminated.
It finally stood at a colossal 1.4m and Airforce and Jerri cleared the jump effortlessly, taking home the coveted trophy. Later Jerri stood by the fence and it was bigger than her. Next stop the moon!
The show started with a Clear Round challenge for newcomers – awarded to Ishika Gupta riding Shakhoora Handsome and Chantal Gramm riding Shakhoora Wallflower.
Class two was a simple one round only class at 50cms. Winning this class was rising star Annie Goode on Mystery and young rider Annie Rogers did exceptionally well too. This was only her second show jumping competition ever and she steered Shakhoora Milan beautifully into second place. This young lady looks like a future champion, though close behind was a very determined Chantal Gramm with Shakhoora Wallflower taking third position.
Class three saw the fences raised to 80cms, over one round with a timed jump off if necessary. Valerie Puls expertly navigated Pippa into first position, with Sara AlMutawa riding the talented Bart taking second spot. Ashraf Atabani rode both Udreikus and Uno Van De Zannehoeve during the event, both superb show jumpers. Ashraf took third and fourth place respectively. Jerri Taylor also secured her first rosette of the day with fifth place on Airforce One.
Class four was a speed class with fences of 100cms, this time Sara and Bart took the winning stand, with Valerie and Pippa as runners-up. Ashraf’s horses were again third and fourth with Jerri maintaining her fifth position with Airforce, but adding a sixth place on Tornado, her second horse of the day.
But there was no stopping the Jerry/Airforce One combination in the show’s climax event: “My horse really does have wings,” she said.
* Shakhoora will hold a dressage show this Friday starting at 9am – running classes in the following tests: Preliminary Junior, Preliminary 1 & 2, Novice and Elementary.
