Bahrain’s second shopping festival is set to be an exciting 30-day celebration of the kingdom’s heritage, hospitality and tourism, providing bargain hunters from across the region with special offers and valuable prizes from a variety of retailers.
Organisers Tamkeen believes the ‘Shop Bahrain’ event staged from December 24 to January 23 will be the largest nationwide festival aimed at attracting tourists from neighbouring countries as well as offering special deals for people living in the kingdom.
Last year, more than 2,000 retailers took part in the first edition of the shopping bonanza entitled Bahrain Noor El Ain. This year’s festival will include a diverse range of retail outlets alongside luxury malls, boutiques and traditional souqs.
At a press conference launch on Monday, Tamkeen’s chairman and acting chief executive, Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa, said: “Last year, we witnessed BD18 million worth of shopping during the six-week festival with a surge in tourists from across the Gulf region. This year the line-up is bigger and better.”
One of the events featured in the month-long celebration will be ‘VIVA Shop & Skate’. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a day of discounts and promotions at Al A’ali Shopping Complex, the first mall to participate in Shop Bahrain and the venue for this week’s launch gathering, while also skating with families and friends on a large outdoor ice-rink.
Starting earlier on December 10 and running until January 9, Adliya’s Al Riwaq Art Space will also come to life with ‘The Nest’ showcasing live music performances and film screenings. The Taste Tour, which had food lovers buzzing last year, is back and will be held every weekend.
And, a family carnival will be staged on New Year’s Eve at Prince Khalifa bin Salman Park in Hidd. Throughout, a raffle will be staged offering ‘fabulous’ prizes, say the promoters.
Registration for Shop Bahrain has begun and will continue until November 22, giving other retail outlets of all sizes an opportunity to take part. Participating outlets will also receive numerous benefits. According to organisers, American Express Middle East will be the preferred payment card for Shop Bahrain.
