Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) has put together a lively line-up of theatrical shows and fun activities for the whole family to enjoy during the FIA WEC Six Hours of Bahrain.
The highly-anticipated endurance racing weekend – the eighth and final round of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship – takes place on November 20-21 in Sakhir.
BIC is the WEC’s exclusive annual stop in the Middle East. It is one of only a few day-to-night races on the WEC calendar, making for a visual spectacle for race-goers that promises a stunning sunset and a brilliantly floodlit track at night.
To add to the Six Hours of Bahrain, a support programme ensures two whole days of non-stop action. Also racing at BIC that weekend will be the GP2 Series, GP3 Series, Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East and the MRF Challenge.
But aside from the on-track activities, visitors will also have plenty to look forward to at the BIC vending area. As part of the off-track entertainment, there will be street theatre acts and an interactive area for guests who wish to get close to the ultimate racing experience.
The street theatre shows feature The Men in Coats, masters of non-verbal entertainment. They have performed at major festivals worldwide, such as at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Melbourne Comedy Festival and recently at the Comedy Arts Festival in Moers, Germany.
The Men in Coats also received the Hackney Empire New Act Award in London and were invited to the Royal Variety Show at the BBC.
Joining them are The Trash Test Dummies, a group of artists creating innovative circus and physical theatre works. They look to take audiences on a journey into their playful imagination, where they explore the infinite uses of everyday objects in the most profound and hilarious ways.
Meanwhile, the interactive area at BIC will include a reverse bungee ride and section where fans can enjoy driving in state-of-the-art GT simulators.
For those looking for an extreme activity, the reverse bungee soars into the sky with a thrilling surge of pure adrenaline. The Reverse Bungee is a truly breath-taking experience in which brave riders are catapulted high up into the air at totally ludicrous speeds, spinning and bouncing as they go.
Furthermore, eight GT simulators with the BIC track will be giving the fans a chance to compete with others to be the first to get to the finish line.
Tickets to the FIA WEC Six Hours of Bahrain are now available. They can be purchased at the special BIC stand in Bahrain City Centre, online at www.bahraingp.com or by telephone by calling the BIC Hotline on 17450000. Tickets cost BD10 for the entire weekend of action. All those aged 15 and below can get in free.
The long wait is over as Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) welcomes back this week the biggest and most sought-after drag racing series in the region.
Kicking off yesterday and ending on Friday will be the first round of the 2015/2016 Bahrain Drag Racing Championship, to be held at BIC’s world-class quarter-mile drag strip.
The series has been organised and is run by the Bahrain Drag Racing Club, in co-operation with BIC and the Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF).
As a member of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Worldwide Network, BIC’s hosting of the championship allows it to fly the prestigious NHRA banner. It also awards each of the season’s category champions a Wally trophy, which is a major accomplishment given only to drivers who are winners in NHRA-sanctioned events.
One more evening tonight of Test and Tune will get this week’s proceedings underway from 8pm to midnight. Qualifying follows on Thursday and Race Day is on Friday. Action begins at 4pm and continues until midnight on the final two days.
All are welcome to attend the season-opening round. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.
Tickets to the Test and Tune cost BD2 each night. For Qualifying and Race Day, tickets are BD5 for both days at the Start Line Grandstand, while tickets are BD3 for both days at the Batelco Grandstand. Children aged up to 12 can attend for half the price.
They will be battling it out in 13 different categories, including 10 for cars and three for motorbikes.
The cars categories include the Street 4 and 6, the Outlaw Front-Wheel-Drive (FWD), the Super Street 6-Cylinder, the Outlaw 6-Cylinder, the Street V8, the Super Street V8, the Competition 4.5, the Outlaw 10.5, the Pro Mod and the Index 10.5.
The bikes classes include the Street Bike, Super Street Bike and Pro Bike.
The new season will feature five rounds, to be held until March of next year.
Round two is from December 15 to 18. It is set to be a special round, as it coincides with the kingdom’s National Day. Round three will be the first of the new calendar year, from January 12 to 15. The fourth round follows from February 23 to 26, and then the season finale will take place from March 1 to 4.
The Bahrain Drag Racing Championship is the Gulf’s leading series in the sport. Participants come from all across the region and beyond, and they battle it out for trophies and points that count towards an end-of-season standings to determine the overall champion.
Meanwhile, taking place on the sidelines of all the action will be BIC’s Dragster Xpereince – one of the circuit’s most sought-after public activities. Clients get into one of BIC’s three-seater Top Dragsters for a run down the quarter-mile strip in mind-boggling speed, powering from zero to 100kmph in just one second. The Dragster Xperience costs BD40 per person and the activity can be done at any time during the upcoming meeting.
