Onny Martin emerged overall winner of the Airmech Medal with a nett-63 (gross 83) finishing three points clear of his opponents at the Awali Golf Club (AGC).
Martin was not only rewarded with the winner’s prize, but also a two-shot handicap cut taking him from 20 to 18.
On receiving this cut Onny, in a tone of relief, said: “At last, a man’s handicap!”
In great playing conditions, 80 players took part in the first competition of the year at the AGC.
This was the 32nd running of the competition and prizes were presented by Omar Al Sinan, Airmech’s maintenance and workshop manager.
The Airmech Medal is unique in AGC’s calendar of 18-holes singles stroke-play competitions, in that the trophy is not awarded to the overall winner, but to the person with the lowest gross score.
Ahmed Al Noaimi, with a gross 71 led the gross score leaderboard, and as a result secured the Airmech Trophy and associated medal.
In addition, Nathan Prince was awarded a special prize for his nett-63 performance as a morning player in the recent American Mission Hospital competition, which was abandoned at midday due to rain.
