WITH reference to the ‘Tasty titbits’ headline on P2 of last week’s issue … an error, tidbits not titbits.

Omar Haydar, by email.

Editor’s note: Thank you for your email but we are sticking to titbits, meaning a small piece of tasty food! We are an English-language publication using British vocabulary although my US-educated colleague Nawaar tells me ‘tidbits’ is the American version of this British word with the same meaning.

SO I go to post a small gift (a soft toy) at the post office using speed post. And I am asked to write a note that says ‘It is my responsibility if the item goes missing’ Huh? They wouldn’t take the parcel without it.

STUDENTS across Bahrain are now invited to register for this year’s World Scholar’s Cup. Those who perform well in our Bahrain competition have the chance to progress onto the global competition and then to the ‘Tournament of Champions’ which is held at Yale University, US.

Two teams of St Chris students took part after securing their invitation at the global round of the competition in Singapore in June. As before, the competition consisted of four rounds, featuring debating, writing and two multi-subject tests. Our students were amongst 500 scholars from more than 30 countries.

Not only did our students have the opportunity to visit many historical landmarks, but all of our six students, Anish Vishwakoti, Shawn Amirthan, Harsh Ainapure, Ali Al-Saffar, Ahmed Abdulhameed & Hesham Albaharna, received medals for their achievements!

The competition was a fantastic opportunity for the students to work together, test their skills and meet students from all across the world.

St Chris represented Bahrain with distinction, including the honour of student Ahmed Abdulhameed carrying the Bahrain flag in the World Scholar’s Cup ceremony!
We are thrilled to welcome the competition back to Bahrain, which resumes in January when we host the Bahrain regional event. The success of our six students last year should inspire others to join the World Scholar’s Cup adventure.
