Kitesurfers from across the region are coming to Amwaj Islands next month to participate in the only regional amateur kitesurf competition.

International star of the waves Ruben Lenten, 27, from the Netherlands, a renowned free-style kitesurfer who made a name for himself with his ‘megaloop’ signature move, will be overseeing and judging the Red Bull Kite: The Waj event on June 4-6.

Sixteen teams of two riders each will compete head-to-head until the top two reach the grand finale. They will have to use body and mind to impress the panel in each of the rounds, judged on air time, grab-tricks, plus spin rotations and in a free-ride round, the riders will have to impress the judges with their best tricks.

For the second consecutive year in Bahrain, organisers are expecting the participation from 10 countries and around 40 participants. The event will be free and open to the public.
