One of the world’s pre-eminent authors and public speakers will be visiting Bahrain next month to conduct a seminar on ‘The Future of Well-Being’.

Deepak Chopra, the Indian-American promoter of spirituality and alternative medicine, will give his talk at the Bahrain Conference Centre, Crowne Plaza Hotel, on April 11. The guru will focus on various aspects of personal health and how society shapes it.

In an exclusive interview with GulfWeekly, he said: “Well-being, in a broadened context, includes a combination of physical, mental, community and career well-being.

“I will be focussing on how these aspects are related to each other and how they influence your life. In particular, I want to stress how these factors are linked to the society you live in, which includes facets such as crime rate, GDP and quality of political leadership.

“Personal and society well-being are intertwined. You’re a part of society and are influenced by it, and in turn you also influence society around you. My discussion will be involving sharing research and data from the fields of genetics and neuroscience to express how your lifestyle, emotional state and social experience are affected by your actions and surroundings.”

Deepak is excited to visit Bahrain for the second time, after his previous visit in 2013. His visit is part of a tour that will also include stops in Kuwait, Indonesia and Malaysia.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to coming to Bahrain and meeting the people there. It is a small country so it had a lot of potential to grow, both physically and spiritually. Being such a small, self-contained country, society is very centred and universal.

“This is compared to a country such as the United States, or the un-United States in reality, which has too much diversity. It has so many different cultures and sub-cultures that it leads to problems with bigotry, prejudice and more.

“I’m looking forward to getting this message across to Bahrain and its people, and I encourage them to attend my workshop and work towards a better frame of mind and state of well-being.”
