THIS weekend close to 500 junior rugby players will descend on the Bahrain Rugby Football Club facilities to compete in Bahrain’s annual Junior Rugby Festival sponsored by GAC.
The children will be making up 36 junior rugby squads from clubs in Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait and Muscat.
Friday will see the younger age groups from five up to 11 competing against one another in formats of the game ranging from seven-a-side tag rugby up to 10-a-side full contact rugby union.
On Saturday, kids aged from 12 up to 16 will take centre stage and spectators can look forward to some fierce competition from the older players who, depending on age, will be playing different formats of the game.
The rugby club has a proud tradition of hosting this event and visiting teams always speak highly of their experience in Bahrain. All visiting teams are fed and kept hydrated and can enjoy the club’s air-conditioned sports hall, swimming pool and clubhouse facilities.
Once the competition is finished they all walk away with at least a medal and the victors a trophy in each age group.
“The club would like to thank GAC who have come on board as the main sponsor of the 2016 event,” a spokesman added.
