Lexus recently rung in the festive season with the launch of its sporty 2017 IS, with the model packing an extensive redesign and a raft of safety features.
The most striking difference is that the entire front fascia of the IS has undergone a dramatic transformation, highlighted by new headlamps, larger air intakes in the front bumper, and an evolution of the brand’s signature spindle grill.
The reshaped bonnet appears more sculptural, with the raised centre portion flowing rear ward from the top of the spindle grill and standard LED headlamps. The makeover also introduces two newcolours, Deep Blue MC and Graphite Black alongside the favourite mixes.
The IS boasts a 3.5-litre V6 engine that produces 306BHP and has an eight-speed ECT Automatic Transmission with standard paddle shifters, which delivers exceptional power and fuel efficiency.
Also available is the F Sport package, which includes an exclusive three dimensional F-mesh pattern, with jet-blackmetallic coating that is also used on the functional brake ducts. It features a revised front and rear suspension for a more engaging drive. Both versions offer 18-inch alloy wheels.
“We are happy to introduce the first new model launch among the 2017 range,” said senior manager of Toyota and Lexus marketing at Ebrahim K. Kanoo, Ayman Shehadeh. “The 2017 model continues to deliver on performance, but modernises the IS, with a sportier, more aggressive look, while retaining the luxurious feel that the Lexus brand has come to betrusted for.”
The new model also offers a wider rear design. There is also a stronger sense of depth with three inter-lapping doted LED lights. The round-shaped exhaust pipes have been updated to be more angular as part of the IS’s premium sports sedan evolution, its designers say.
A new 10.3 inch screen offers a larger and clearer image of the various functions of the multimedia systems. The LexusRemote Touch Interface (RTI) multi-media function control device, used to control the audio, driver’s phone and more, is available in conjunction the navigation system.
The cabin of the new model continues to exude a first-class feel with a new cup holder design; revised climate control panel, analog clock and steering wheel switches; and new interior colours. Are designed speedometer and tachometer and new stitching a top the gauge hood enhances the cockpit’s sporty feel.
