Awali Golf Club opened the season with a traditional Captain v President 9-hole competition.
In total 36 players pared off to participate in the 4Ball Betterball format on Friday afternoon. The keenly-contested round resulted in victory for the Captain’s team, 6.5 points to 2.5 points.
Players later gathered in the clubhouse for food, drinks and the day’s results. Club President Mark Hodgkinson looked on as outgoing captain Bill Scarth ceremoniously handed over the Captain’s Tie to the new captain, Paul Anderson.
In addition, new PGA golf pro Rory Young was welcomed to the club. He is already offering lessons to beginners and experienced players alike.
Members were appreciative of the AGC clubhouse’s recent interior renovation, which has given the facility a fresh look.
And, the new driving range floodlights will present members and visitors an opportunity to practice and take lessons after dark and will be open until 8pm. Finishing touches to the clubhouse refurbishment will be complete by the end of the month.
Next up is the Mulligan’s Social Comp on Friday, open to all players (handicap and non-handicap). The Mulligan’s is a 9-hole individual player Stableford setup. Sign up at the AGC clubhouse.
The club is celebrating its 80th anniversary with a full line-up of competitions and events. “So come out, take a lesson and enjoy the fun at AGC!” said Anderson.
