Gulf Weekly Hockey News - Sharks bite off more than they can chew

Abu Dhabi’s AD Aeros squad skated to victory against former champions the Bahrain Sharks in the fourth Fire on Ice Hockey Tournament.

The kingdom’s hockey fans flocked to the Funland Centre in Manama over the weekend to watch 10 teams battle it out on the ice in a round-robin competition format.

In the Open Division, Aeros struck an 8-5 blow to the Sharks. Meanwhile, in the GCC National Division, Kuwait clinched the trophy after defeating Qatar 3-2.

Tamer Fakhroo, organiser and Bahrain Sharks defensive player, said: “It was an exciting weekend filled with non-stop action. This year was a huge success with so many fans turning up to cheer on their favourite teams.

“Congratulations to AD Aeros and Kuwait on a great job done. I’d like to thank Funland’s management for helping us make this year’s event another successful one and for all the teams that participated. We look forward to hosting it again next year.”

The Fire on Ice Hockey Tournament has been added to the sporting schedule to be held in Bahrain every May by the GCC Ice Hockey Committee.
