Gulf Weekly Shine brightly for our appeal

This newspaper has teamed up with DHL, the world’s leading express delivery and logistics’ company with regional headquarters in Bahrain, which has promised to deliver the supplies as a gesture of goodwill.

Bahrain Rugby Football Club (BRFC) in Janabiya has offered to act as a collection point for YOUR donations and The Multinational School Bahrain, Riffa Views International School, St Christopher’s School and the British School of Bahrain have also agreed to receive toothbrush donations from pupils and parents to support the appeal.

GulfWeekly Editor Stan Szecowka said: “We always receive a tremendous response from readers to our community campaigns and I’m positive together we can make a difference once again.”

Phil Armatage, DHL Express Country Manager Iraq and Afghanistan said: “This is a very humble campaign with an incredibly achievable target, yet it will help to significantly improve the lives of thousands of women and children who have been misplaced, and are in constant need of basic hygiene material that help make their lives a little bit easier.

“We are confident of the success of this campaign and have no doubt that the community in Bahrain will bring us another large shipment that we look forward to deliver.”

The idea behind the Ramadan Smile Campaign came from Mr Armatage’s colleague Aurora Nolasco, a mother-of-five, who lives in Amwaj Islands.

As reported earlier in GulfWeekly, Aurora, DHL Express Iraq & Afghanistan human resource manager, recently returned from a business trip to the troubled region, and took time during a rest day to visit camps in a Kurdish-controlled area.

She explained. “Refugee camps suffer from a lack of resources, one of which is a lack of products that provide basic hygiene. “They have nothing. A simple thing like a toothbrush would make a real difference as the refugees attempt to get their lives back.”

Special DHL Express collection containers will be placed at the rugby club. Chairman Mehdi Honar said BRFC was happy to participate. “It is always good to encourage our community to do what they can to support those who are less fortunate than ourselves, especially during the holy month,” he said. “BRFC is asking everyone to contribute to GulfWeekly’s very worthwhile Ramadan Smile Campaign.”
