Putting and the one hand drill

Ever seen a pro practising putting one handed before and wondered why?

This is a drill that’s popular with better players and serves a couple of purposes:

  • For a right-handed golfer, holding the club just in the right hand and rolling putts on the practice green is a great way to develop ‘feel’ with a rhythmic stroke, instead of a tight two-handed grip that can produce short, jerky putts.
  • Also, it will improve your hand-to-eye coordination, as after a while the player focuses more on ‘stroking the ball’ rather than the complicated mechanics of the set up and shot, that can hinder good putting.
