Former international rowing athlete William David Ader has put his worldly experiences into book form in a bid to help others reconnect with themselves, as well as push ahead to get the most out of their lives.

The 31-year-old self-published author launched An Informal Guide for Your Life to help others find direction as he did…and it all started with a joke.

“This idea of writing a book initially came from a friend’s joke,” said the EY procurement manager living in Awmaj Islands. “He suggested that I write a book after hearing my discussions with others when I was sharing my approach to life.

“It took some time, but I realised that was the right thing for me to do. I have always been keen to listen and learn from others’ experiences about life in general in order to expand my own horizons and it’s a great way to give back to people.

“I decided to challenge myself by compiling my recipes about investing in life into a book.

“It doesn’t just state the obvious but, practically and simply, investigates what impacts your life and how and what inspires you to move towards the life you want to live.”

The 128-pager, available in hard-copy and in e-book form, shares Williams’s experiences with others and readers have been splashing out for it in more than 30 countries.

According to the brief on Amazon, each chapter from his book explores a life topic such as integrity, relationships, time, technology and success, to help people align their actions with their life purpose.

The feedback he has received so far has shown him that his book also reaches out to people of all ages.

“Students and young adults will probably get the most benefit, but others may also be surprised by their choices,” said William.

“This book will help readers reconnect with themselves and their purpose while also having a different perspective on their future.

“They will also gain time and confidence to experiment with the ideas mentioned in this guide. The simple awareness of them and their benefits will begin to inform their desires, expand what they know is possible and begin the process of consciously investing in their life.”

William knows about this all too well as he moved to the kingdom in 2019 after looking for a change from his life in France.

“I needed a change after five years in Paris and I was looking to experience something completely different compared to Western Europe,” he explained. “From my research, Bahrain looked to be the perfect spot. After two and a half years, because of its diversity, open-mindedness and close-knit community, it is very clear I made the right choice.

“I’m pleased to have published my first book in Bahrain and now I am planning to follow it up with an audio book. I’m also thinking of another writing project and expanding into being a life coach.”

William was part of the France national rowing team as well as the Monaco coastal rowing team. He was also a world champion in coastal rowing in Lima, Peru in 2015 and he won three gold medals at the French Coastal championships.

He continues to enjoy rowing today in Bahrain with the national rowing team but only for fun.
