News flash – British expat woman in Bahrain has two left feet! This discovery was made on Sunday morning when I decided to try something new and I thought I’d start with Zumba.
As we all know, it’s always a little daunting walking in to a place for the first time, especially any form of exercise class. You see, I had been invited to give Zumba a whirl when I first landed in the sandpit by a bubbly instructor called Gill.
Strangely enough, I never did make it to one of her classes but we have since participated in many evenings of entertainment. Having brought back another summer tyre around my middle, it was high time I got my booty out of park and into gear!
I was fully prepared wearing the correct clothing, even had a new pair of fuchsia pink trainers, which were numbing my feet before we’d even got started. You see, I have developed the curse of ‘Flintstone’ feet with wearing flip-flops for years and as soon as they are encased in any kind of footwear, they begin to throb and my toes scream ‘let us out!’
Anyway, I teetered in through the door of Ballare dance studio in Saar and was warmly welcomed by all.
Our colourful instructor Gill pumped up the music and we were off, the tunes are contagious, the moves sassy and fun, even with my two left feet!
Hold on a minute, I thought working out was a chore? Apparently not in Zumba, it’s like being in a fitness-party. The studio was full of energy, smiles and laughter – why had it taken me so long to discover this exercise phenomenon?
That’s not all, the gorgeous Gill moves the Zumba party to coffee after class! What a great way to meet new people in Bahrain. You can find more information on Facebook – Zumba in Bahrain (Ballare) with Gillian Mottram or shimmy on down to Ballare at 8.30am Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday or a Monday evening at 6pm.
It’s exercise in disguise!
