Gulf Weekly Faraj forages ahead in style

AWALI Golf Club was delighted to host the BH-UK 200 Open, sponsored by Bapco and Mohammed Jalal & Sons.

It was the 157th event out of 200 planned this year to mark the bicentenary of the start of relations between Bahrain and the United Kingdom. There was a good turnout for this competition with 94 golfers teeing off throughout the day.

The Awali course is known for its unpredictability due primarily to the renowned Awali ‘bounce’ but few fell victims to this phenomenon on this occasion. Overall winner, Mohamed Sultan Faraj was one of three l a net score of 64 however he claimed the top position with a gross score of 78.

Last week’s winner Nicky Park continued her good form by repeating her previous gross score of 89 but lost on countback to this week’s runner up Vidhu Mittal with a gross score of 81.

Winner of the medal competition was Diab S Al Noaimi with gross 71, net 69. with Yeong Gul Kim taking 1st place in Flight 1 with a gross score of 77, net 67 and second place went to Ahmed Al Noaimi with gross 73, net 68.

Flight 2 was won by Jasim Al Gatam with gross 82, net 66 and runner up after countback was Ali Mohamed A Kowari with gross 78, net 67.

Flight 3 saw Nicky Park take the lead with a gross score of 89, net 64 and Nevil Malao claimed second place with gross 87, net 67.

Peter Doble from Qatar Golf Association bagged the prize for best score from the overseas players with gross 82, net 68 while Phil lll neighbouring Royal Golf Club with gross 83 and net 74. Hendrik Wessels, Mick Shaw and C V Murthy collected prizes for being nearest the pin on hole 6, 14 and 4 respectively while Ali Danesh received the prize for the longest putt on hole 18. Mohammed Jalal & Sons was represented by its GM David Bailey, and his wife, Nicky, presented some of the prizes.
