Help, I’m feeling confused and laden with guilt as I sneak the last of the chocolate Brazil nuts that I’d hidden from the husband! I just couldn’t resist … I’m obviously not ready to start any New Year resolutions yet.

Anyway, why on Earth do we make all these ridiculous promises to ourselves at the beginning of a new year? For starters, it’s the worst time possible to embark on a diet or detox when the cupboards are still full with goodies, and I do hate waste!

Then there are the tempting invites and social gatherings that are still in full swing, dry January simply cannot be done! We are also meant to gurus this month but, to be honest, I’m quite exhausted as it is by having to listen to my friends explain all the ins-and-outs of their new gym membership contracts that they’ve paid a small fortune for.

I dread to think how much has been spent on Lycra and NikeAir! Alas, gym attire has continued, almost triggering a migraine the other morning as my ll friend popped round enthusiastically after her latest gym session.

I had to have a wee snigger to myself though as she declined my offer of her regular coffee for a healthy green tea instead, whilst she frantically searched in her gym bag for her packet of cigarettes!

Anyway, I just remembered about the tin of Quality Street with my name on it, so February it will have to be!
