Sometimes us mums mess up!
Yep, we aren’t perfect but we try our best, carry on day in day out, never truly knowing what lies ahead of us. We are certainly kept on our toes, the hours are long and the vacation days are limited.
Being able to multitask is a must. I’d had a particularly tough week with the kids off sick from school, the husband stuck in Saudi, someone rear-ending my car, stressing over our son in the UK freaking out over his exams and just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, I smashed my iPhone!
To top it all I forgot to cancel a tennis match for one of my sick kids, both apologies sent to the other player’s mother have been ignored – ouch! I was floundering, barely staying afloat and work deadlines were looming.
Aaaaargh! But you know what gets us through the ‘joys’ of parenting, those days that are more challenging than others? Nope, not the flow of appreciation from our other halves, nor the cutesy smile and suffocating hugs from the sprogs.
Have you guessed yet? No… It’s friends … fellow mums, moms, mummies, mothers … because we are all in the same boat, some days merrily floating downstream, other days rowing furiously against the wind.
But with this crucial lifeline, we cope. It can be hard and lonely for expat mums when they first move to Bahrain, until they build up a new support network. Thankfully, there are a number of good nursery and schools on the island, which may give you a chance to meet other mums. So, thank you to my friends, who know I’m not perfect!
