Promising young Bahraini golfer Ali Al Hakam won the third round of the Audi quattro Cup Series at the Royal Golf Club with an impressive 38 stableford points, just one point ahead of runner-up Yousif Janahi.
The pair’s achievements were a little overshadowed though by two competitors achieving a rare hole-in-one during the competition. Men’s vice captain Sanjay Lal first aced the seventh hole of the club’s challenging Montgomerie championship course, followed soon after by Barry Hobday on hole 12.
Jim Lanceley continues to top the series order of merit for the second consecutive month with 99 points while Rob Lane now holds second place with 92 points.
A field of more than 50 players turned out to do battle in the prestigious series which will be played out over a total of six rounds at the Royal Golf Club. The series winners of the Bahrain tournament will have an opportunity to go forward and compete in the world finals, which this year will be held at the prestigious Quivira Golf Club in Cabo San Luca, Mexico, in December.
With around 100,000 players competing in 750 tournaments in 54 countries annually, the contest has developed into the biggest worldwide amateur golf tournament series.
