BOOK OF THE WEEK with Linda Jennings. Ragdoll, Daniel Cole, Isbn 9781409168751  (Trapeze) BD6.300 for Gulf Weekly Book Club members

The International Bestseller everyone was talking about at the London Book Fair.

‘Superb thriller writing’ - Peter Robinson, ‘A brilliant, breathless thriller’ - M.J. Arlidge and ‘A high concept solution to a mystery’ - Sophie Hannah.

High praise indeed, so I was delighted to meet the author who very kindly gave me a personal signed copy and a second signed copy to sell in the shop for BD6.300 to the first Gulf Weekly Book Club member who comes to The Bookcase main branch on Budaiya Highway, all proceeds going to Tony the Dogfather.

A body is discovered with the dismembered parts of six victims stitched together, nicknamed by the press as the ‘Ragdoll’. Assigned to the shocking case are Detective William ‘Wolf’ Fawkes, recently reinstated to the London Met, and his former partner Detective Emily Baxter.

The ‘Ragdoll Killer’ taunts the police by releasing a list of names to the media, and the dates on which he intends to murder them. With six people to save, can Fawkes and Baxter catch a killer when the world is watching their every move?

Translated into more than 30 languages, Ragdoll is a quality, rocket-paced thriller with twists and turns you won’t see coming.

Anyone who enjoys Jo Nesbo or Karen Slaughter will, like me, be unable to put this thriller down until the very end. Moreover, you will not stop talking about this book. It truly is a compelling read and probably the best debut novel I have had the pleasure to read.

BD3.900 for Gulf Weekly Book Club members

Full of betrayal, deceit and suspense, Die of Shame is the spectacular new book from number one bestseller Mark Billingham - author of Time of Death and In the Dark, both soon to be major TV series.

Every Monday evening, six people gather in a smart North London house to talk about addiction. There they share their deepest secrets: stories of lies, regret, and above all, shame.

Then one of them is killed - and it’s clear one of the circle was responsible.

Detective Inspector Nicola Tanner quickly finds her investigation hampered by the strict confidentiality that binds these people and their therapist together. So what could be shameful enough to cost someone their life?

And, how do you find the truth when denial and deception are second nature to all of your suspects?
