Awali Golf Club hosted a busy weekend of golf with African & Eastern Tournaments taking place on both Friday and Saturday. Following weeks of unseasonal weather, temperatures were up, but thanks to cooling breezes wafting through the fairways, playing conditions were excellent on both days.
The A&E Corona Classic Medal Competition took place on Friday and saw Essa A. Al Qutami claim the Medal prize with a gross 71. Andrzej Jopek took the overall winner’s spot with a nett 63, followed closely by James McLear on 64.
Sharif Abdulla with 65 and Hendrik Wessels with 66 took first and second place respectively in Flight one.
In Flight Two, Reynaldo Alejandro was placed first with 65, while Captain Bill Scarth took second place with 68. Nevil Malao took the honours in Flight Three with 67 while Tim Beynon was placed second on 69.
Three side prizes were also presented for nearest-the-pin in each flight with Hamed Fares winning for hole 6 in Flight One, Adel Al Gaoud winning for hole 12 in Flight Two and Nicky Bailey for hole 4 in Flight Three.
On Saturday, the A&E Carlsberg Classic Stableford Competition took place with Nevil Malao, Friday’s Flight 3 winner, taking home the top prize with 41 points.
Runner-up was Keith Gale with 40 points and Moh’d Salmeen, also with 40 points had to settle for third place after losing on countback.
