DESIGN houses are saying goodbye to plunging necklines and short skirts to usher a global new trend of … modest dressing.

Traditionally, women in the region are no strangers to covering up and adding a touch of chic style to their look in the best possible taste.

It appears the global fashion industry is rushing to follow suit as dressing demurely is proving to be big business right now.

Labels such as Dolce & Gabbana, for example, set the pace with a range of abayas and even sports brand Nike started stocking hijabs for those wanting to keep fit and avoid the wolf whistles. And fashion-followers may recall a UK fashion show aimed at empowering Muslim women that opened in London in the spring. Models strutted down the catwalk in scarves, hijabs and loose-fitting maxi dresses.

More than 25 designers from around the world showcased their lines during Modest Fashion Week and many more have unveiled similar styles in recent weeks.

Moda Operandi has fine examples of the desired look from all the top names straight from the runway. There is a sassy sophistication found in this autumn’s high necks, dropped hemlines and a general absence of skin which conveys a sophisticated elegance with warmth, comfort and style.

Silky long-sleeved blouses paired with midi-pencil skirts work wonders for work alongside, turtle-neck maxi dresses in vibrant colours.

Denim delights too for those casual evening events, with knee-high boots and long-sleeved tops complimented by trench coats for when wintery chills call in a couple of months’ time.
