Gulf Weekly Tournament triumph for Bahrain school’s team

YOUNG golfers representing St Christopher’s School powered their way to glory in a recent British Schools in the Middle East (BSME) tournament staged in Dubai.

A squad made up of Yaseen Lefalher, Charles T’Kint, Nicholas Scerri, Ronan Smith, Sebastian Woodrow and Alexander Hopman-Ruh played at the Trump International Golf Course in a three-school tournament of 27 holes of medal play.

St Christopher’s won the first three places in the Nett event as well as the Overall Nett Team Prize - the team prize was determined by the best three players’ scores from each team.

“There were three schools involved with 24 students playing altogether, aged between 12 and 18,” said the school’s golf coordinator, Barry Hobday, a former Royal Golf Club (RGC) captain whose son, Sam, is a former St Chris pupil who recently turned professional and is now the RGC’s ambassador. “Our team was in sparkling form.”

Results:

1st Nick Scerri - Nett 102

2nd Ronan Smith - Nett 107

3rd Alexander Hopman-Ruh - Nett 109

Team Scores

1st St Christopher’s - Nett 318

2nd British School of Al Khubairat - Nett 342
