A budding array of young artists and photographers will be showcasing their works at a special auction in a bid to raise funds for their future studies.

Amongst the art up for grabs will be work by celebrated British School of Bahrain pupil Layla Al Ammari, who picked up the highest marks globally in the recent GCSE examinations.

Layla, 16, who is currently in her first year of A Level studies including art, said: “It was really gratifying to receive the honour and it just came as a reminder not only for how much I love art, but how much hard work can truly pay off.

“I’m really excited about the auction because BSB has given me immense support over my years and continues to do so. It would be an honour to give something back, especially to the art department.

“I’ve exhibited before but my work has never been on sale, so that’s pretty cool too!”

Layla, who lives with her family in Saar, received the Highest Global GCSE for her entire GCSE entries. The mark means that she has achieved the highest possible internationally and only a few other students in the kingdom matched that success.

Layla will be exhibiting two pieces featuring mosques in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

“I picked these in particular because I feel as though they encapsulate the spirit of the Middle East, and hopefully that can be felt through my art.

“I hope my work ends up displayed in a happy home. The auction is a brilliant idea and I’m humbled to be a part of it.”

The stunning work of pupils in the school’s art department will be placed on display for public viewing at its Hamala premises between 7.30am to 3pm until the auction which will take place on Monday between 5pm to 7pm.

As well as raising funds for the young artists, a smaller portion of the auction sales will be donated to the Parent Community Association for further investment in student projects and the art department.

Ellen van Manen-de Boer, chair of the interim board of the Parent Community Association, said: “We thought it would be a great idea to showcase the talent of the art department as well as give students a chance to sell some of their works of art that they have created in a fun and informal way.

“Sixty per cent of the sale will go to the student artists, 30 per cent will be donated to the PCA and the other 10 per cent will be given to the art department.

“The auction is open to invited guests and parents, but, if people visit the exhibition and see something they like then they are welcome to come along too.”

There is approximately 70 original art works on display along with 42 photographs.

The images will be sold for BD15 each and the bidding on the paintings will start at BD75, BD110 and BD150, depending on size.
