The Royal Golf Club’s Order of Merit got underway last weekend. After moving back to the more traditional format, individual stroke play, there were prizes on offer for Men’s Gross Winner, Men’s Nett Winner & Ladies Nett Winner.
Mohamed Al Noaimi took the gross division with an impressive 72 strokes which included five birdies in a row on holes 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10. He went on to birdie two other holes on the back nine of the championship course to finish level par for his round.
In the Nett division, Barry Hobday managed a nett 68, four under his handicap. Barry and playing partner Ronan Armstrong, both teachers at St Christopher’s School, also managed to win the first round of their Pearl Trophy, a pairs betterball matchplay tournament open only to RGC members.
In the Ladies Nett division, Dana Whiteley, who also won the roll up medal last week, won by three strokes with a nett score of 75.
