Rugbylegend Brian O’Driscoll will be touching down in Bahrain next month as the special guest at Sports Speaker MENA’s latest dinner at the Crowne Plaza Bahrain on November 23.
O’Driscoll played for the Irish provincial team Leinster and when on to captain Ireland and the British and Irish Lions. He is regarded by critics as one of the greatest rugby players of all time and is the second most-capped player in rugby union history, having played 141 test matches.
However, he was almost left with a broken neck after the Kiwi’sTana Umagaand Keven Mealamupicked him up and rammed him to the floor in the first minute of the first Test during the Lions’ 2005 tour of New Zealand.
As he was dumped to the floor, O’Driscoll twisted his body in a bid to avoid landing on his head. He was stretchered off and rushed to hospital with a dislocatedshoulder that side-lined him for the rest of the tour.
Neither player apologisedfor the spear tackle. Referee Joel Jutgelater admitted he should have shown the pair a red card.
