Gulf Weekly Exploring the neutrals

While some people delight in covering their homes with bright splashes of patterns and colours, others prefer basking in a more Zen-like atmosphere with neutral tones that connect and calm.

Furniture and accessories in neutral hues tend to lend a sense of simplicity and sophistication to the home. Plus when a room is anchored in neutral colours, it offers numerous style and décor options.

Amit Yadav, head of marketing of Emirati brand, 2XL Furniture & Home Décor, believes that a calming home environment is easy to achieve with a neutral palette. He said: “Working with shades of white, grey, ivory and beige can transform any area into an elegant and relaxing space that is both functional and beautiful. A neutral scheme is ideal for summer too and makes a place look larger and airy.”

However, 2019 is all about rejuvenating neutral colours and they are not just grey, beige and white shades anymore. Now the New Neutrals trend has expanded to include deep blue, sweet corn colour and brown granite. Other shades of 2019 consist of blush, pastel blue, dusty sage green and lovely lavender.

The New Neutrals can be used in several ways to liven up a room as per the interior press shows for Spring Summer 2019

According to Maxine Brady, an interior stylist living in Brighton, the collections were filled with rich, inviting shades of blush, rust, delicate off-whites and flesh tones, with flashes of teal.

She advises that the key to nailing the neutral look is to keep rooms simple and perhaps add a statement piece to jazz up the space. Also, the trend is not about using one single colour but instead blending shades such as adding vibrant rusty reds with warm oranges and soft blushes. Paint a wall in one strong colour to bring a sense of warmth and calm to a space. Those that don’t fancy painting a whole room can add a bold block of colour to a room in an irregular shape instead.

Wood is also a New Neutral and can be used as texture to emphasise an area in a room. Try wood staining existing furniture for a quick update at home. A bold patterned rug is the perfect way to inject this trend into a home as well. Then look for one in complementary tones. Sunny yellows, ochres and lemons are all part of the New Neutral colour palate too, so use them to brighten up a dark corner of a home like a hallway or landing.
