Think Pink Bahrain has been staging a series of fun events, school visits and brunches across the island in a bid to raise awareness about breast cancer as well as funds to support the campaign...and this weekend, children and adults are invited to saddle up for the cause, writes Mai Al Khatib-Camille.

On Friday, the Muharraq Horse Riding School, which was founded by national coach Ahmed Mohammed Abdulrazzaq, that has been supporting Think Pink since 2014, will be hosting a Pink Pony Day featuring grooming riding, games and a craft market. The event will run from 4pm to 7pm and its priced BD1 per person. The following day, the school is staging a Ride for Pink from 3pm to 6pm and registration is BD7. This is the fourth horse parade in Bahrain for breast cancer awareness.

In 2016, the marvellous Muharraq Horse Riding School Ladies’ Endurance team was Think Pink’s brand ambassadors. The seven sporting trailblazers included team captain Rehab Isa Suhrab, Hasna Ali Al Tannak, Elizabeth Botha, Rehab Aamer, Lateefa Al Seddeqi, Latifa Al Seddeqi, and Hessa Al Meshari.

Rehab Isa, the women and children equestrian coach at the school who is also a rider that qualified in several endurance races, said: “We got involved with Think Pink to raise awareness about the benefits of early checkups and screenings for cancer, because every family has a case.”

The three-hours, 3km Ride for Pink last year attracted 87 riders and they hope to corral a crowd this year too. For details, contact 39858770 or 33090088.

Another event which will surely draw interest is the Mosaic for Pink fundraiser held on Monday at The Art House from 4pm to 8pm for ladies only.

Ilse Viljoen, owner of Mosaic House, who has been living in Bahrain for 25 years, said: “The Art House is a place where all walks of life can come and learn how to make mosaics. We cater for all ages and it is an art form that can be done by children and adults alike.

“Mosaic art is very soothing, therapeutic and a wonderful hobby to just unwind for those with a busy schedule. No previous art experience or education is necessary to come create your own mosaic piece.

“This event is going to be a fun day out for ladies where they will make a themed mosaic to take home. Everybody will receive a small gift and will be served lovely snacks.”

There will also be an auction during the event featuring mosaic wall hangings and tables, gift vouchers, perfumes and other art pieces. There will also be a one-night-stay at the InterContinental Regency Bahrain for two and brunch tickets. All proceeds collected from the auction will be donated to Think Pink Bahrain.

“During the event, we will also have two infertility and gynecology specialists from Dr Khulood Aldarazi Medical Centre who will be talking to us about cancer and the precautions to be taken,” added Ilse.

Mosaic House, together with Moments and Memories event company, have been planning this event for one month. Tickets are priced at BD15 per person and are available to purchase at The Art House.
