THE first two episodes of dark comedy crime drama Your Friends and Neighbours’ new season are out now on Apple TV.
A release is scheduled to continue until June 5.
The series follows the recently divorced and unemployed ex
hedge fund manager Andrew ‘Coop’ Cooper (Jon Hamm), who resorts to stealing
from his neighbours to maintain his and his family’s wealthy lifestyle.
The second season introduces Owen Ashe (James Marsden), a
charming new neighbour whose arrival immediately threatens Coop’s carefully
constructed lies, putting his family at risk.
In an interview, show creator Jonathan Trooper explained
that adding Owen into the show was a vital part of building on the foundation
established by its first season.
“The novelty of Coop robbing houses is over. So, while
robbing houses is still part of his MO (modus operandi), that can’t be the
thing you hang your hat on,” he said.
“How do we raise the stakes, both emotionally and
physically, for Coop? That required a disruptor, bringing someone else in.”
Jonathan added that the latest season will further explore
the protagonist’s internal conflicts as he goes through mid life crisis.
“I think one of the themes that we’re really exploring more
deeply in Season 2 than we did in Season 1 is middle age and the psychological,
emotional and physical damage you’ve done to yourself by this point in your
life. The whole premise of the show is Coop’s midlife crisis, and you’re
starting to see some of the more physical representations or manifestations of
that with Coop in Season 2,” he added.
Apple TV announced that a third
season is already in the works.
