Beloved Baloo, an adorable chocolate brown rescue dog who has stolen the hearts of autistic children and animal lovers from across the kingdom, aims to bring joy and laughter to people once more.
The popular Labrador and his fur mum Sarah Clarke, the author of Baloo’s books and founder of Baloo’s Buddies, is launching a fun competition on social media to spread smiles and cheer.
“Just as we humans miss meeting up with our friends, Baloo, my 15-year-old chocolate Labrador, is down in the dumps,” said Sarah. “He is not allowed to meet his four-legged pals and their families due to Covid-19 restrictions. Bottom line, his tail is not wagging as much as usual.
“To help him, his two and four-legged buddies feel better, Baloo’s Buddies and our friends at a well-known kennel in Barbar, have decided to launch an online short video competition. It’s something that pet owners can do easily and have a giggle. I know that many people are beginning to get rather bored with the reduced social activity so this is something simple to do - and maybe you’ll win a prize for your pet.”
The #get_your_wiggle_on_bh came about after Baloo and Sarah went on their daily walk.
“Due to Covid-19, I walk Baloo the same route every day and it can get a bit boring as he is very slow these days,” she explained. “Sometimes I sing or dance as he wiggles along. One day, I started singing “get your wiggle on Baloo” and came up with the competition idea.
“We want to see your dog or cat’s best wiggle so that we can all have a giggle during this difficult time. Your dog or cat can wiggle their middle walking or wiggle on their back. If they’re very clever, they can wiggle their ears or do a wiggle dance on their hind legs!”
To enter the competition, the video must include at least one dog or cat wiggling and it should not be longer than 30 seconds. Make sure to post it on Instagram, Facebook or GDNLife with the hashtag #get_your_wiggle_on_bh. No hashtag, no competition entry. This is only open to the dogs and cats of citizens and residents of Bahrain. If you don’t have a dog or cat, you can still participate, making it more inclusive. Simply wiggle with a toy dog or cat. The cat video and dog video that gets the most likes by midday on June 1 will be deemed the winners of the competition. There will also be a prize for non-pet owners wiggling with a toy. Winners will be contacted by direct message on Facebook or Instagram. The winning wiggling dog will receive a voucher for a doggie play date and for grooming, a book about dogs and some surprises. The winning kitty will receive a voucher for an overnight cat staycation and grooming, a book about cats and also some surprise goodies.
Sarah added: “Be imaginative to get the most likes. You can wiggle with them too. So come on, Just for a giggle, get your wiggle on!”
