Bahraini band Mawawil Al Shooq (Arabic for “Ballads of love”), comprised of vocalist Abdulla Al Qassab, guitarist Essa Alsutaihi and pianist Hassan Essa have released a new single titled Ana Mali Sawaaj Inti (Arabic for I only have you).

Since their formation in 2016, the tuneful trio have waxed poetic about all matters of the heart, weaving Arabic and Bahraini slang with soulful Latin, reggae and jazz melodies. Their first album Maskeen Yagalbah (Arabic for My poor heart) spoke of the pain of unrequited love, while their latest single has a slightly more optimistic yet still sombre tone.

If you enjoy traditional Arabic music, you will find this slight twist quite refreshing.

It has been written by Abdulla who has been singing for 21 years, produced and directed by Essa and mixed and edited by Dream’s Mohammed Al Qasimi.

The latest single will be featured in their upcoming eight-track third album, due out next year, with their next single Taal mahalam (Arabic for Come to dream) to be released during Eid.
