A new Dodge Charger has been launched boasting nearly 800 horsepower of American muscle, writes Mai Al-Khatib-Camille.

The 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye has been dubbed by motoring journalists as the ‘most powerful and fastest’ mass-produced sedan in the world. It runs 1.2 seconds faster than the Charger SRT Hellcat on a 3.4km road course, equal to about seven car lengths after one lap.

The heart of the American performance car comes from the limited-production 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. The supercharged 6.2-litre HEMI high-output V8 boasts 717 to 797 horsepower, 6,100rpm and 959Nm of torque and is mated to a TorqueFlite 8HP90 eight-speed automatic transmission. There is even an upgraded torque converter delivering an 18 per cent increase in torque.

The engine boasts 25 major component upgrades including a larger superchager, strengthened connecting rods and pistons, high-speed valve train, fuel injection system and improved lubrication system.

The mean machine also features a wide-body exterior with integrated fender flares that add 3.5-inches of body width and its new 20-inch-by-11-inch lightweight carbon black wheels ride on Pirelli 305/35ZR20 tires. The freshly designed, functional performance hood also gives this four-door sedan an even sinister look.

Its interior boasts standard Laguna leather seats embossed with the SRT Hellcat logo. Complementing the race-inspired cockpit are silver seat and console stitching, light black chrome accents and a Gunmetal SRT Hellcat instrument panel badge.

The car is set to be available in the Middle East late next year.
