The Indian Ladies Association (ILA) will be staging a webinar on Sunday to showcase the pandemic’s impact on society as well as how both young and old can cope with the challenges, writes Mai Al-Khatib-Camille.
The ‘Meeting the Challenges of 2020’ free online event will feature 10 speakers, hailing from different professional backgrounds, aimed at motivating and inspiring viewers on how to stay positive during these difficult times as well as how to rise above it all.
The concept came about by ILA member, Dr Anamica Bhattacharya, who is a freelance educator and artist that staged virtual art workshops throughout July to spread positivity. She had been working on the idea over the past couple of months with input and encouragement from Dr Sarah Clarke, author of the popular Baloo’s books based on her chocolate-brown Labrador.
Anamica said: “It is our social responsibility to do whatever we can to help people as we are all in the same boat. I thought by creating this webinar, it can fill our days with hope, positivity, creativity, information and knowledge.”
Anamica, who is also part of the ILA’s ‘Share your Skill’ (SyS) subcommittee, suggested the webinar to SyS co-coordinator and senior member Rekha Utham who then put it forth to ILA’s executive committee.
Reena Sreedhar, ILA’s honorary president, said: “Since the concept was in line with ILA’s commitment to spread awareness, positivity and hope to all during these unprecedented times, it was decided to organise the event under ILA to reach a wider audience.
“We gathered talented professionals under one virtual roof to empower people.”
The topics will be discussed by the likes of scientists, doctors, horticulturists, software engineers, creatives and entrepreneurs. The speakers include Sarah, Ritesh Kumar Sethia, Dr Dodul Mondal, Sonalika Bhattacharya, Erick Gardner, Prakash Saha, Dr Piyali Bhaduri, Dr Purnima Bose, Dr Debarati Halder and Dr Bharat Kumar Pradhan.
Sarah will discuss unexpected journeys in life, whereas entrepreneur Ritesh will share how to start a new venture and how to adapt with situations. Oncologist Dodul will share his experience with Covid and he will highlight the role of doctors on the frontlines as well as educate people on how to be social while taking precautions.
Reena added: “We hope this webinar will enlighten our audience with some global and common challenges of 2020 as well as guide them by suggesting probable ways to find a solution.”
The webinar will be hosted by Rekha on ILA’s Facebook page, ilabahrain, from 4pm to 6pm. All the tech support will be provided by Trupti Sudeep, ILA’s honorary general secretary.
