The Bahrain Rugby and Football Club (BRFC) unveiled the new team kits for their Golden Oldies squad last week, celebrating the achievements of the team over the last year, writes Naman Arora.

The Golden Oldies is a squad made up of the club’s more senior players, with the not-so-strict qualification being that they are over the age of 35. A club within a club, the squad supports events and initiatives around the region and can be seen entering events across the region as well as touring annually.

Locally, they play a sequence of friendly games with visiting navy sides, as well as those from across the bridge in Saudi Arabia.

The new kits highlight the team’s new sponsors and will be used for the next two years.

As the GulfWeekly reported in July last year, the team, led by Andrew Walsh, came up with unique ways like the Push-up Challenge, to stay connected despite finding themselves on different continents at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Push-up Challenge was undertaken by the squad to raise awareness about mental health struggles, especially as social distancing restrictions isolated many individuals.

The team has been busy getting in shape for their next game.
