APPLE TV+’s Land of Women starring Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria is set to premiere its first two episodes on June 26, followed by four episodes scheduled to air weekly until July 24.
The six-episode mini-series, directed by Carlos Sedes, narrates the story of Gala, a New Yorker who finds herself on the run due to her husband involving himself with criminals he’s indebted to. With her husband’s disappearance and the criminals targeting her family, Gala, along with her mother and teenaged daughter, leaves for northern Spain in an attempt to start fresh, only for gossip to spread around town, exposing her family’s secrets.
The dramedy was inspired by a bestselling Spanish novel of the same name (La Tierra de las Mujeres) by Sandra Barneda. In a recent interview, Eva Longoria, who plays the protagonist and is also credited as an executive producer, revealed that this was her first time shooting in Spain. “I loved this writer, Ramón Campos, who created the show. I adapted one of his other shows (Gran Hotel),” Eva added. “I told him, ‘Ramón, write me something in Spain. I want to go shoot in Spain. I’ve never shot in Spain!’. And literally, not even less than a year later, he came back with a script.”
The episodes will be available to watch in English and Spanish, as the series has been shot in both languages. Its star-studded cast also includes Cannes Film Festival award winner Carmen Maura who portrays Gala’s mother.
