THERE was a veritable flurry of excitement in Saar on Friday afternoon after Al Ammir Stables had put in a massive amount of effort to build a fantastic cross country course.

It consisted of 28 fences and a huge bank was constructed at the start behind Abbas Al Ghuraifi’s Stables.

Competitors made their way around the course which wound round the back of the desert. At the finish was an imposing water jump which certainly tested the bravery of both horse and rider and penalty seconds were suffered if an obstacle was refused.
The winner was Ebrahim Nader on Sweed, who completed the course in an amazing time of two minutes and 32 seconds.

Close on his hooves and heels was Younis Zabar astride Harum in a time of 2mins 57secs, and in the same time, but with penalties, was Sayed Ahmed Jaffer riding Indian.

The trio received trophies and certificates were given to all participants. The stable has now scheduled another event for Friday, May 1 ‑ most definitely a date for everyone’s diary.

The event proved to be amazing fun for everyone – horses, riders and spectators – providing a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable afternoon.

Meanwhile, BREEF held its penultimate Show Jumping Championship on Saturday. Winning the first junior class was Abdulla Ali astride Ghoroob, followed by Mayoof Al Rumaihi riding Granus and in third position was Georgia Sim with Mobiley.

The second junior class was a two-phase event and taking home the trophy was Ahmed Essa on the lovely Lucy. Close behind them was Hussain Dadalla with Lucy, and in third place it was Ali Hani Al Yabis with Ajzal.

Ali Essa rode a lovely round on Coolen to win the first of the adult classes, with Muslim Ali taking runners-up spot on Emily. Ali A Rasool Ashoor riding Horse Pride Chilli took third place.

In the penultimate class, another two phase-class challenge, it was veteran Abbas Al Ghuraifi with Champagne who won in style. He was followed by Mohammed Al Abdulkareem riding Indurado and Ahmed Mansoor with the fabulous Edward Du Sud.

The final class of the day, the Grand Prix, was a one round with jump-off. There was only one pair clear, a spectacular round by the magnificent Muslim Ali on Pascal, which gave the rider the Grand Prix Champion title once again. Ali Essa steered F16 into runners-up position. Basim Mahdi had a fabulous round on Vivica to clinch third place.

The final BREEF Show Jumping Championship will be held this Friday and will feature junior dressage, junior and adult show jumping. On Saturday it is adult dressage and mixed show jumping. The full schedule is on the BREEF website.

The dressage tests will be judged by international dressage trainer Oliver Walter. He arrived on Monday and will stay until Saturday night and is offering lessons.
