The Board of Trustees of the Isa Award for Services to Humanity has launched a campaign entitled ‘Cherished Moments with Late Amir His Royal Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa’ at an event held at the Isa Cultural Centre in Manama.

The campaign aims to collate photographs, testimonies, or videos from the general public documenting some special moments with the late Amir of Bahrain and his humanitarian services on the local and international levels.

This collection will be used to produce a new documentary which will showcase many humanitarian initiatives undertaken by the late Amir. The documentary will be shown at the 3rd Isa Awards for Services to Humanity, taking place in mid-2017 under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad, in the presence of Arab and international figures from around the world.

We are pleased to have launched this campaign which provides a great opportunity for embassies, government entities, photography clubs and associations, leading businesses and the general public to share their images, videos or testimonies about the life and times of this great humanitarian.

As part of the campaign, any photographs, footage or testimonials about the late Amir can be uploaded to the website: www.isaaward.org or emailed to communication@isaaward.org. In addition, this exciting campaign will also be supported by various social media channels such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Ali Abdullah Khalifa, the award’s secretary general.

Editor’s note: The Isa Award for Services to Humanity was established in 2009 to honour the individuals and organisations around the globe that have served humanity in a profound way. The laureate, selected by a committee of distinguished scholars, experts, and public figures, receives a prize of $1 million and a gold medal.

In celebration of ‘Manama Gulf Capital of Tourism 2016’, the Bahrain Tourism & Exhibitions Authority is hosting Bahrain Food Festival from February 25 until March 3 at Block 338, Adliya, a culinary exhibition that showcases the kingdom’s emergence as a gastronomy destination.

Following the remarkable success of the recent Bahrain Gaming Experience, we are eager to prepare for this festival which will be a platform to showcase the kingdom’s rich culture from a different point of view, focused on uniqueness and vitality.

The festival aims to encourage diversity, creativity and the unique multicultural nature of the kingdom, while highlighting new and varied culinary concepts, restaurants and hospitality that the kingdom has to offer.

It mainly aims to promote shops and outlets that sell local food and drinks, with more than 30 pre-eminent outlets participating. Participants will also include businesses and concepts related to the food industry such as nutrition, kitchen appliances and more.

With an aim to create an unforgettable culinary experience, the Bahrain Food Festival will offer visitors a quality driven and unique repertoire of international and cultural cuisine along with a schedule of live entertainment suitable for the whole family. The festival will run daily from 4pm until midnight.

The Bahrain Tourism & Exhibitions Authority invites all businesses related to the food industry such as manufactures, nutritionists, restaurateurs, catering services and more to register for the festival which will attract Bahraini residents and tourists from neighbouring countries.

Shaikh Khaled bin Humood Al Khalifa,
Acting chief executive of the Bahrain Tourism & Exhibitions Authority.

I AM writing to you on behalf of The Palm Association, a local charity dedicated to supporting the country’s less fortunate Bahraini families.

This year is our 15th anniversary and our main fundraising event, a charity auction and ball, will be held on April 21 at The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, to mark this special occasion.

The Palm Association was the first charity to become registered by expatriates in Bahrain but our committee now comprises of expats and Bahraini women.

Since the beginning and with the help of people and organisations, it has managed to raise a staggering BD1.25 million, all of which has been used to provide essential items to Bahraini families.

Each year it is challenging to raise the money we need to support our families and we are currently seeking sponsorship for our main project, Feed-a-Family. This project alone costs BD40,000 each year in order that we are able to support the 155 Bahraini families we have made a commitment to.

Companies and individuals who make a significant donation will be acknowledged at our charity ball on the night, as well as on our Facebook page and Twitter account.

We are a completely voluntary association invested in helping those Bahraini families who fall beneath the poverty line. Every dinar we raise goes straight to those families most in need in the way of food parcels, clothing, home renovations and education. It is the Palms strict policy never to give cash directly.

We have a strong sense of responsibility to our supporters as well as our families and consequently our audited accounts are available on request. The Palm Association is a well-respected, proactive organisation with the sole purpose of helping those Bahraini households in greatest need and with your very valuable help we can continue to do just that.

Please do not hesitate to contact me by emailing chair@thepalmassociation.com if you would like to discuss the ways in which we can work together to help disadvantaged families in our community.

Karen Tennant,
Chairman.
