Gulf Weekly Social sessions prove a hit

Awali Golf Club took advantage of the pleasant seasonal weather over the Eid holidays to kick off the new season a couple of weeks early with an 18-hole social played over two afternoons.

Nicky Park and Darren Swain kept their cool above all others and were rewarded with first place on 40 stableford points each.

Moments before the prize giving, club captain Bill Scarth had presented Swain with his first handicap - just reward for a commendable commitment over the long summer months.

Sadly, the cries of ‘bandit’ could not be quelled as the competition was non-qualifying for handicap purposes. No doubt the committee will be keeping a close eye out for future feats of excellent scoring.

Also notable in the prize list were Phil Morrison and Sarah Hobday with the best 9 hole score on Day 1 and Day 2. Prizes were presented by the club’s new social member, Nicky Bailey.

AGC’s competition season formally opens on Friday. September 30 with the charity Captain’s Drive-In followed by a 4-Ball Better Ball matchplay between the President’s Team and The Captain’s.

Before then members will be dusting off the cobwebs and tuning their swing with the club’s head PGA professional, Matt Chalmers. Any current, returning or aspiring golfers on the island are most welcome at AGC, either contact the club through its website www.awaligolfclub.com or just turn up and someone will help you.
