It’s a spin-off of a popular BBC TV religious programme which first aired in 1961 and the series is one of the longest-running of its kind on television anywhere in the world.

Among those choosing hymns to be sung, and explaining why they are important to them personally, are members of the British expat community including British Ambassador Simon Martin and his wife Sophie, school principals Julie Anne Gilbert (British School of Bahrain) and Ed Goodwin (St Christopher’s  School), as well as GulfWeekly’s editor Stan Szecowka.

The hymns that will be sung will be interspersed with appropriate readings, poetry and other sources and there will be prayers of thanksgiving for the special relationship between the two countries and the two monarchies.

Dean, The Very Reverend Chris Butt, right, said it promises to be a special occasion. “So often music and the words of hymns touch the core of our being and recall important experiences in our lives,” he said.

“BBC Television’s Songs of Praise has been running for more than 50 years - it’s a simple format in which people can talk about some of the most important experiences of their lives.”

All are welcome to this special service and to come and join in the singing. Call 17253866 for more inquiries or email cathedra@batelco.com.bh
