Bahrain will be welcoming its first large-scale medical robots at the futuristic King Hamad American Mission Hospital, due to open in 2022, writes Naman Arora.

The American Mission Hospital (AMH) and Smart Skyline Contractors signed an agreement at AMH’s Manama headquarters last week for the construction of the 100-bed multi-specialty hospital in A’ali.

AMH corporate chief executive Dr George Cheriyan said: “The BD25m hospital is a futuristic concept that will take us through the next 25 years. “This is why we have introduced new ideas like a hybrid system including medical robots and a helipad that we can rely on as road traffic increases.

“The hospital will be full digitised and focus on providing medical intervention for people at home.”

The facility will also include a $1m (around BD377,000) solar system and after its opening, AMH will employ a total of more than 1000 staff members.

AMH has also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Bahrain (RCSI) to provide clinical teaching for medical and nursing students at the new hospital.

The enterprise is co-owned by the Reformed Church in America. It will be the fifth AMH facility, expanding its medical portfolio, which currently includes Amwaj, Manama, Saar and Riffa.
